Static Text Controls

Overview

Static text may be placed anywhere on your panel.  It's primarily used to label edit controls or to give instructions.

In the sample below, the text "COBOL field name" is a static text control.  It's a label for the edit control just to the right of it.

Static text controls are not active, you can not cause them to gain focus, and they may not be changed by the user.  They are meant to be static and unchanging, although you can set both the font, and the color of the static text.

You can also put mnemonic access keys in static text.   Access keys are an underlined letter that will trigger windows to focus (jump to) a control.  For instance in the example above, if the user had put in an access key of "n" in word "name" it would appear as "COBOL field name"  (note the underline).  This is done by preceding the n with an ampersand character.

When the user wants to use an access key they press alt+n, and the system will focus the next tab-able field after the static text containing the access-key.  See the topic Access Keys.
